Which information do I need to complete the Envirometer?
The most important information includes your annual energy consumption, annual fuel consumption, annual water consumption and an annual overview of your waste streams. The list of requirements contains a full overview of these requirements. Information about the documents that are likely to contain these figures have also been included.
How long does it take to complete the Envirometer?
Entering data in the Envirometer is quick and easy. Collecting the require data is more time-consuming. In our experience, it takes a small business roughly three hours to complete the Envirometer the first time. This process will be considerably faster the following year, especially if you use the ‘note’ function to document data sources, assumptions or calculations.
Can I edit the Envirometer on a monthly basis?
Yes, you can choose to enter data per month for a specific item and generate a monthly overview of these figures.
The Envirometer is intended to compare several years’ worth of data. Most companies find it useful to make comparisons on an annual basis. This is because many figures are not available on a monthly basis or because they fluctuate throughout the year (e.g. gas consumption for heating purposes, hazardous and non-hazardous waste collection, paper use, etc.).
Can I easily export the data from the Envirometer for other purposes?
The Envirometer can be exported to Excel in the settings menu. A spreadsheet with all submitted data will be generated, including CO2 emissions per theme and key indicators. The Excel file can be then printed.
Can I compare my results to the industry average?
Yes, if there’s an average for your industry, you can compare them to your results. The industry average Envirometer is the result of a benchmark in the relevant sector. Afterwards, you can view the industry average in graph form per employee, per production scale and per revenue. You can find more information on existing benchmarks with the Envirometer in the industry examples section of this website.
What can I do with indicators?
Efficiency indicators make it possible to compare results with sector averages and with results from other branches and other years. For example:
- electricity consumption per surface area
- water consumption per visitor
- waste separation
You can compare your own indicators with averages to find out why you score higher or lower. You can also track your indicators over the years. For example, as your company grows, you can track the environmental costs per employee or the total revenue in euros.
Can I automatically import data into the Envirometer?
Yes, as of December 2016 the Envirometer can automatically import data from other sources because of the added API (Application Programming Interface). The API can establish links between external data sources such as measurement data from an energy company. In this way, filling of the Envirometer becomes even easier.
