Influence on investments

Mr R. Sabiran, quality manager at Koel- en Vriesveem Vlissingen b.v. (KVV), was pleasantly surprised when his company was given an environmental scan with the Envirometer. KVV is specialised in refrigerated storage and processing of producs like fruit juice.

Before you can take effective action, you first need to inventory the situation and the Envirometer is an excellent tool for that purpose.

The [Envirometer] scan prompted us to take action to cut back on our water consumption. We adjusted our settings. If one sip is enough, why take two? [...] Wastewater arising during production is discharged to the sewer. It contains fruit-juice and fruit-flesh residues, which are pretty polluting. Now we capture as much of this waste stream as possible and sell it on for processing in animal feed.

Envirometer for trading companies

This Envirometer pie chart shows the environmental impact of the average trading company. It is based on the Envirometers of four trading companies and distribution centres. 

In this average, goods transport is the most important factor, followed by commercial waste and electricity. In comparison, the other environmental themes feature far less prominently.

From this average Envirometer score several indicators were calculated, shown in the table below. The averages reported provide merely a very rough indication of the environental performance of trading companies, because the data are based on four companies only.
