The CO2 meter

The Envirometer has a built-in CO2 meter. Once you've entered your environmental data in the Envirometer, one of the results produced is your own CO2 meter, allowing you to:
  • See in a single chart the share of each environmental theme in your CO2 emissions (CO2-footprint).
  • Click through, for each year, to a table that shows you where your CO2 emissions arise; this table also sums all your emissions (including any offsets under compensation schemes) so you have a record of your net CO2 emissions.
  • The CO2 conversion factors used in the CO2-meter are listed in the attachment with the actual and historical  Envirometer CO2 factors

What's included in the CO2 meter?

  • electricity consumption
  • fuel consumption (gas, district heating, wood, domestic fuel oil)
  • commuting (public transport, motor vehicles)
  • mobile machinery (fork-lift trucks, excavators, earth-moving machinery, etc.)
  • business travel (public transport, motor vehicles)
  • freight transport (all input fields)

The CO2 meter corrects these CO2 emissions for:

  • use of 'green' electricity
  • ise of 'green' gas
  • procurement of CO2 credits in compensation

What's not included?

  • CO2-emissions caused by waste.

What CO2 emission data does the CO2 meter use?

The CO2 meter uses the CO2 emission factors published by SKAO (Stichting Klimaatvriendelijk Aanbesteden en Ondernemen), in close consultation with Stichting Stimular, Duurzame logistiek/Connekt and with support of CE.  The emmission factors are based on Dutch data. The factors correspond to European data, except for "grey" electricity and gas.

More information about emission factors can be read in the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
